July Wandering // 7.23

Hi wanderers!

Saturday, July 23, 2022 we’ll be wandering together at 4:00pm

Ernest E Debs Regional Park

4235 Monterey Road, Los Angeles, CA 90032

This hike is described as a moderately easy “loop through almost every section of this lovely green space near the Arroyo Seco. Birds are abundant here, and the air will probably be filled with birdsong as you hike its mostly easily-graded trails and fire roads.”

To get to the park: From the 110, take the exit for Avenue 52 and head east. Ave 52 turns into Griffin Ave after a sharp southward turn. The entrance for the Audubon Center will be on the east side of the road just down the street. There is a free parking lot near the Center, but it's small and will most likely be full (the lot closes at 5PM, too). Park on the street and just walk back up the entrance road. Transit accessible with some walking.

Details, directions, and recommendations at: Ernest E. Debs Regional Park in the Arroyo Seco | Modern Hiker

Please note: It is difficult to gauge accessibility for trails. “Moderate” means different things for different people, abilities, and experience. We are a community of support and will help one another enjoy our time on trail and hike as we all feel comfortable.

This trail is in Montecito Heights, California and is part of traditional, sacred, and unceded land of the Chumash, Tongva-Gabrieleño and other Indigenous peoples. We must be mindful of the fact that this is native land. Consider what that means to you and to us as we hike. How can we best honor the land and those from whom it is stolen?

We encourage all those who live and move on indigenous lands to learn about the history of this land and to be active in responding to the deep wounds caused by colonization. We also ask all who wander with us to support the Tongva Land Conservancy and the indigenous communities who, at great cost, care and have cared for the lands on which we live and walk.

Please send an RSVP to payton.hoegh@spiritualityinnature.org so we know who to expect!
